Glenn Parker, enterprising manager of the new film house, Katonah Hall, offers an added attraction. Each admission carries a number and three lucky number holders are presented with a box of candy every Saturday evening.

Charlie Chaplin (1889-1977) makes his debut movie in 1914. It's called Making a Living.

The June rabbit-hunting season is extended by nine days.

The Elson Art Exhibit, 200 masterpieces selected from the work of Egyptian, Greek , Roman and European artists, is held a the Katonah High School Assembly Hall. Admission is 25 cents with the proceeds used to buy pictures for the school-rooms.

Some Events of 1914

  • The assassination of Archduke Francis Ferdinand, heir to the throne of Austria, sets off World War I.
  • The United States declares itself officially neutral in World War I, which lasts until June of 1917.
  • The first traffic lights, which are only red and green, are put up in the USA.
  • December 1914-Preparedness advocates organize a National Security League.
  • President Woodrow Wilson creates the Federal Trade Commission.
  • Construction of the Panama Canal is finally completed.
